National Weather Service Portland issued a Special Weather Statement Monday, alerting to the possibility of the coldest temperatures in seven years, with freezing rain and snow possible.
According to NWS, their models are increasingly predicting temperatures in the 20s, 30s and 40s for much of southwest Washington and northwest Oregon.
NWS says there is a 30-40 percent chance the coldest high temperatures will be felt since early February 2014 with 20 degree highs.
Additionally, an approaching low-pressure system may bring precipitation to the area beginning late Wednesday, possibly lasting through the weekend. There is a “good chance” of rain, freezing rain and snow hitting lower elevations. How much and what type remains “highly uncertain” at this point and NWS said it was “also quite possible the area will dry out while remaining cold.”
